  1. The title is a bit of a ringer, since this isn't a collaborative effort in any way, shape, or form. Muddy & the Wolf contains a half-dozen live Muddy Waters tracks with backing from Mike Bloomfield, Paul Butterfield, and Otis Spann, the material culled from the Fathers & Sons sessions. The set also features tracks by Howlin' Wolf from his London sessions with Eric Clapton and Ringo Starr.

Although it makes no mention of it anywhere on the package, The Gold Collection is actually a Muddy Waters live set and not the straightforward hits compilation it presents itself to be; the sound quality is decent and the song selection's fine (with "Got My Mojo Working," "Long Distance Call" and "Blow Wind Blow" among the featured tracks), but with so many better collections on the market this one .
